Biography —
LaGretia Copp joins the Kansas African Studies Center after five years as program specialist with the Center for East Asian Studies. Her background is in European, African, and international history, with a focus on European imperialism, colonial Africa, and decolonization. Her research of the creation of the British colony of Nigeria explored the networks among missionary societies, merchant interests, and the colonial administration. Her most recent research was a comparative study of British Chinese, Indian, and South African labor corps during the First World War.
Before coming to KU, LaGretia taught history at Fort Hays State University and international studies at Miami University, where she also mentored students preparing to teach in East Africa. At KASC, she brings together her background in African history and international studies with my experience in higher education program coordination, communications, events, and outreach.
